Both of the following statements can be true:
It’s great to have a full schedule for the week ahead.
It’s great to have a wide open schedule for the week ahead.
Some people thrive on scheduling their days and weeks down to the minute. I’ve seen planners filled with different colors, each representing a different activity. Many people love to “time block” every hour. They design their work into their lives.
Others are perfectly comfortable letting the day unfold. Maybe they simply “day block” their routine with themes like Mailbox Mondays or Face-to-Face Fridays. They design their lives into their work.
While opening a thank-you note this week, I noticed a quote printed on the back that made me stop for a moment:
“Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere,
and sometimes in the middle of nowhere you find yourself.”
As I looked at my calendar for the week ahead, I realized it was exactly the kind of schedule I enjoy. A few appointments are penciled in. Some are business. Some are personal. I’ll do my best to build relationships, solve problems, and have fun.
But I’ll also leave room for the conversations, opportunities, and moments that could never have been scheduled in the first place.
We often measure a successful week by how many blank spaces on our calendar we manage to fill.
Maybe success is leaving just enough margin for life to surprise you.
Somewhere between the meetings, the errands, the emails, and the obligations…
Leave yourself enough room to notice something unexpected.
Sometimes the best part of your week isn’t the appointment you planned. It’s the moment you never saw coming.
