I went to the movies this weekend. It wasn’t a new release but an old favorite from 1986.

The movie was “Stand By Me” directed by Rob Reiner. It’s an adaptation of a Stephen King story called “The Body.” The plot focuses on four young boys sneaking away from their small town of Castle Rock, Oregon for an end-of-summer adventure to go see the body of a young man who had died in an accident.

Starring Wil Wheaton, the late River Phoenix, Jerry O’Connell, and Corey Feldman, the movie also features a young Keifer Sutherland and is narrated by Richard Dreyfuss. It’s a fun story of boys coming to a crossroads in their lives as they get ready to head off to middle school. As the movie unfolds, it’s pretty clear that the childhood friends will be going in different directions soon.

But for one more journey, these boys were going to stick together.

Who are you on your journey with? What obstacles and challenges do you face that you’re going to need some partners, friends, or companions to help you make it through?

Do you stand by your company, brokerage, or team?

Do you stand by your clients and look out for their best interests, displaying the fiduciary duties you promised them when they hired you?

Can you stand by the commission you choose to charge your customers and clients, knowing that you are worth every penny you earn?

Will you stand by your affiliate partners such as your preferred loan officer, home inspector, title company, or attorney…and will they stand by you?

Do you have people in your life outside of real estate who are there by your side, offering support, encouragement, and an ear to listen to your struggles and complaints while keeping you focused on your goals and dreams?

Are you ready to stand up to the bullies, negative Nellies, and miserable media that seem intent on tearing you and your industry down?

What are you waiting for?

Stand by those who stand by you
