“These are days you’ll remember. Never before and never since. I promise.”

These Are Days, 10,000 Maniacs

We all have special days in our lives.

Birthdays and anniversaries are targeted dates each year that many look forward to or remember but many of us look forward to certain days (or dates) for specific reasons. It could be holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas, Father’s Day, or Veteran’s Day. It could be special days like the kickoff for college football season, the first Thursday of The Masters, or the Sunday of the Academy Awards. It could be bittersweet days commemorating the death of loved ones such as grandparents, parents, siblings, and friends.

Most of us don’t pay much attention to any particular day…until it’s worth paying attention to.

Today is one of those days for me.

Today, I have been alive for 20,000 days.

Born on October 12, 1967, today the meter crosses from 19,999 to 20,000 the same way your odometer goes from 99,999 miles to 100,000 miles.

It’s such a random observation because what really makes today any better than day 8,887, 12,345, or day 16,549? I guess it makes it better than those days because…it’s today. We can’t change the past but we can make an impact on today.

“These are days you’ll remember. When May is rushing over you with desire to be part of the miracles you see in every hour. You’ll know it’s true…that you are blessed and lucky.”

Billings, Montana, to Ithaca, New York, to Columbus, Ohio.

Gainesville, Florida, to Homosassa Springs, Florida, to Westlake, Ohio back to Columbus, Ohio.

From first jobs in high school and college to second careers in golf, the beer business, and now real estate, it’s been a fun ride. Now I am thrilled to be selling real estate, coaching top agents and teams to become better, and speaking to real estate audiences around North America.

“These are days you might fill with laughter until you break. These days you might feel a shaft of light make it’s way across your face…and when you fo, you’ll know how it was meant to be…”

So now this milestone will be passed and the meter will keep counting.

I guess I’ve never really spent much time worrying about the days I have been alive. I’ve been more worried about being alive every day.

Just trying to build relationships, solve problems, and have fun.

It turns out that when you focus on those three things, the days seem to be a little easier.

See ya tomorrow. It’ll be 20,001.

“See the signs and know their meaning. It’s true, you’ll know how it was meant to be. Hear the signs and know they;re speaking to you, to you.”
