Yesterday we hid some plastic eggs in the backyard and had a good old-fashioned Easter Egg Hunt for our kids. Now, it’s not easy trying to convince two grown kids to “channel their inner 5-year-olds” and race around looking for fake eggs but we cajoled and threatened them to get off the couch and the phone for a few minutes to “get in on the holiday festivities.”

We hid a few for Ryan and a few for Riley and tossed in some ground-level eggs for Callie, our 6-year-old, yellow lab. Once Callie realized there were treats in the eggs, she raced around the yard searching and finally finding all of hers. Riley quickly found her three pink eggs and Ryan eventually made his way around the backyard, finding his third egg sitting eye-level on the tree branch.

The kids then got to open their eggs and were surprised to find some cash and a scratch off lottery ticket for each of them. Suddenly the task of having to do some “work” had literally “paid off.” Some extra spending cash for their last few weeks at school and a chance for a bigger payday on the scratch-offs. #CantWinIfYouDontPlay

Where Will You Find Eggs This Week?

The current real estate market sort of feels like a big egg hunt, doesn’t it? You’re gonna have to look everywhere for something that might have a “prize inside” or it could turn out to be rotten.

Will you approach your own “back yard” with the excitement and unabashed eagerness that Callie did, even before you know what might be in store?

Will you venture out hesitantly like Riley did, wondering if it will be worth your time?

Maybe you’ll take the laid-back approach that 19-year-old Ryan did, not being too aggressive but still ending the hunt with something to show for his effort?

Regardless of your approach, I know there are some “eggs” out there worth adding to your basket. They are disguised as friends and family, clients and community members, down-sizers, and DINK’s (dual-income, no kids). Some are thinking of selling and others are needing to buy.

It’s time to start building relationships, solving problems, and having fun. Grab your basket and get off the couch. The treats that are hidden right in your own backyard are waiting for you…if you’re willing to go out and find them.
