Monday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.

It was just a 36 hour visit. After a few days away from home for a work obligation, it was time for a quick trip to spend some time with friends and watch some college football. I caught the last direct flight headed to St. Louis and raced to my rental car upon arrival. I still had about a two-hour drive west to Columbia – the home of the Missouri Tigers. My buddies had arrived the night before so I had some catching up to do.

MizzouWhen you haven’t seen your college friends in over two years there’s no chance you’re going to pack it in and head to bed so of course we headed over to campus to meet up with a few others and grab some beers. We closed down the bars and then headed back to our rented home for a few more hours of catching up and reminiscing.

I was the first one up the next morning so I headed to a fast food spot and grabbed breakfast for me and my friends. We got our proverbial “game faces” on and hit the campus for a great day of tailgating, an exciting Gator victory and a fun post game celebration that lasted until the lights came on and they told us it was time to go.

When the alarm sounded at 5am I had no choice but to “rise & shine” and make a quick exit for that drive back to the airport in St. Louis as I had an early flight home and still had to return the rental car as well. I caught up on some sleep on the short flight home and might have snuck in a nap once I got home.

Spending about 30 hours with some of your best friends in a great college town while watching your alma mater play football makes the early morning alarms and the late night yawns all worth it.

If you’re focused on building relationships, solving problems and having fun, you’re probably going to have a few early morning alarms in your future and you’ll also have to endure your share of late night yawns. You want to start making a difference and achieving success? Start showing up early and plan to be one of the last people to leave.

When you work hard, push yourself and hustle, things seem to work out in your favor. Don’t worry though…it’ll be worth it.
