Monday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.

Have you ever had a great idea that didn’t work? Do you ever wonder why sometimes things work out and other times it just doesn’t feel right at the moment? There’s such a fine line between a million dollar idea and a “what if” concept tossed on the pile of insignificance.

The Color of Innovation

On this date (Sept. 28) in 1951, CBS made the first color televisions available for sale to the general public only to have the product discontinued less than a month later. Mainstream color television sets weren’t available until the mid 1960’s.

Today we wouldn’t think of watching, much less purchasing a black & white television. In fact now, our culture is a bit snobbish on our viewing habits requiring high-definition broadcasts sent through ultra-sensitive cable to provide the best picture possible. Even our mobile devices have a crystal clear picture for our YouTube videos and Instagram images.

So did CBS fail by not selling everyone in America a color television? Heck no. It turns out they were just way ahead of their time. History has shown us this over and over again. Kodak once dominated the “instant photo” world and LiveSteam were “game changers” but now Snapchat and Periscope are two of the hottest things available.

What are you thinking of doing this week that might change the world?

You woke up today with something to do. You have a list of things you must accomplish in order to get closer to your goals for the year or possibly to fulfill a responsibility. What will you do?

You also have some crazy idea bouncing around in your head that you’re just not sure what to do with. Maybe you think it’s a silly idea or something that would never work so you’ll just keep it inside so you don’t embarrass yourself. Maybe you’ll keep watching new episodes of Shark Tank until someone finally takes “your idea” and makes millions.

That past client’s name that flashed into your brain over the weekend? It’s time to call them.

The FSBO you have passed for the last two weeks on the way to the office? Park the car and knock on their door today.

Your pain-in-the-ass client who you’ve been worried about talking to? Call them up and say “we need to talk,” and then tell them they are fired.

The truth is, some of your ideas might not work today but…they certainly will someday. You just have to test the market and see if the time is right for innovation. If it is, you win. If it isn’t, you still win because you’re that much closer to find out what is going to work.
