5636860332_4ed957212b_zMonday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.

It Starts By Showing Up

When was the last time you took a chance? I mean really jumped outside of your comfort zone and risked someone saying “No thanks” to you? My buddy Cameron Portwood is a licensed Realtor with our Coldwell Banker King Thompson company in Columbus. He is easily one of my favorite people I’ve had go through our new agent development program simply because of his huge personality and willingness to put himself “out there.” He isn’t afraid to fail…which makes him more likely to succeed.

Cameron isn’t a full-time Realtor because he’s also an aspiring rapper, musician, music producer and entertainer. I was excited to see Cameron isn’t afraid to show his vulnerability. He isn’t afraid to take chance. In fact, he took a chance that the other day and it just might end up changing his life.

That was the message Cam tweeted out after he had a chance encounter with rapper and hip hop mogul Kanye West outside the House of Blues in West Hollywood. West and superstar Justin Bieber (along with entourages of both singers) were walking out when Portwood (who performs under the name Cameron Grey) took a chance and asked Kanye to take his contact information. The security guards try to stop Cam from getting any closer but his offer to “rap for you right now” catches West’s attention.

TMZ happened to have their cameras rolling when the chance encounter happened and it’s easy to see that Cameron didn’t let this chance pass him by. [Warning: some language my not be safe for work]

Who knows is anything will come from it but I think it’s neat that something MIGHT come from it. Maybe Kanye holds on to Cameron’s contact information and gives him a chance to “start at the bottom.” Or perhaps someone else sees this video and has a spot for Cameron’s talents and hustle. Imagine if Ellen saw this and is enamored with his guts to reach out to an idol and ask for a chance and invites him on to her hit television show. Or Jimmy Fallon? Or Jimmy Kimmel?

Sure the cynic might say that West was just being nice to Cameron for publicity. They’ll say he probably threw away the contact information as soon as he got into the car. The haters will say Cam isn’t even that good of a rapper. There are plenty of people out there who don’t want Cameron to succeed – just read the comments under the TMZ story. Heck, they don’t want anyone to succeed. Just remember that the cynic wasn’t outside a West Hollywood club looking to put himself in a position to make something happen. They were somewhere else, living their life comfortably in the status quo…or even below that.

What are you waiting for?

Who knows what might happen the next time you knock on a door. How might that next stranger that you talk to change your life? What if you made one more phone call this week? Why don’t you send one more hand-written note to someone? When is the next miracle going to happen in your life…and will you be there to witness it?

Start today by building relationships, solving problems and having fun. That’ll probably be enough to at least get someone to turn around and listen.

Awesome. I don’t know Cameron, but I want to!

Joe – He is an amazingly infectious person who oozes energy. I wish he was dedicated 100% to real estate because I know he could crush it but he is where he’s meant to be right now. I’m excited for him

·

That was amazing! He stood in front fear and went for it! Kudos Cameron!

·

Sean, I understand why you enjoy being around him so much! I love his raw emotion as he walks away. That reaction is only possible after you put yourself in the position that he did. Imagine if we all did something like that for ourselves tomorrow. How different could the future be?

Awesome Cameron! !!!

What would have been even better is if Kanye had taken Beck’s Grammy and given it to Cameron…
