Monday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.

Hide and go seek! There are only 10 days to go until 2015 arrives. There’s nothing we can do to stop the new year from getting here. It’s coming no matter what. It’s like when you were playing Hide & Seek as a kid and you were “it.” Your friends ran off to hide while you counted and once you hit ten, you shouted…

here I come, ready or not!”

Think back over the last 355 days at how often you probably uttered the words “save some time.” Whether it was a shortcut here or there, a technology device or skipping steps in a process, your intent was to reduce the time spent on one thing so you could use it towards something else. Something that, at the time, seemed more important than whatever it was that you were doing.

Like many American workers, I’m cashing in my remaining vacation days these next two weeks. If I didn’t use them, I was going to lose them. In hindsight it might have been nice to take some time off when the weather was more conducive for a round of golf or perhaps taking a long weekend in a new locale would have been fun. I was probably playing it safe and “saving” these days for later in the year when I might “need” them for something special.

Tick, tick, tick…

How often have you done that? Tried to save something for later and when later came, you didn’t even need what you had set aside in the first place. We take our leftovers home in a doggie bag with good intentions of eating them later, yet often toss them in the garbage when it’s trash day.

Maybe next year we stop trying to save time and instead be more focused on using up every week, hour, minute and second that we have. Use it up the way we squeeze every drop out of a toothpaste tube or scrape the spatula around the bowl full of brownie mix making sure every drop gets into the baking dish before it goes into the oven.

1779555530_ead7c83b19_zWho knows what one more phone call might lead to between now and New Year’s Eve? Maybe an open house on December 28th would be a waste for some people but you’re not trying to meet hundreds of visitors; you just need one. Maybe that FSBO down the street has made the decision that, come January, he’s had enough of selling his house on his own and he’s going to find a professional as soon as the holidays are over.

Awwww, who am I kidding? You’re probably thinking you’ll just save those ideas for January when they’ll probably work better, right?

Or you could change your mindset and realize that the clock hasn’t hit zero yet. There are plenty of opportunities to build relationships, solve problems and have fun this week.

They will be there…whether you’re ready or not.
