Constitution in the National ArchivesWe all have that one top priority in our day. It’s that thing that is the foundation of who we are and what we do. It’s probably something we do better than almost everyone else. It’s the main ingredient in our recipe to success.

I’m not talking about some activity you could do and then cross off once it’s been completed. It’s bigger than just a task on a list. It’s the Preamble to the Constitution. It’s the parking lot scene of a Grateful Dead concert before the music even starts playing. It’s being able to taste the bacon just from the smell while it’s cooking. To paraphrase Simon Sinek, it’s not what you do it’s why you do it.

If you’re a doctor, help others feel better.

If you’re a teacher, you inspire.

If you’re a police officer, you serve and protect.

If you’re an athlete, you compete.

If you’re a parent, you love.

If you’re a musician, you make people feel your music.

If you’re a comedian, you make people laugh.

If you’re an actor, you make people believe in your character.

If you’re a writer, you turn words into stories.

If you’re an entrepreneur, you bring the dream to reality.

If you’re a thought leader, you make people think.

If you’re in sales, you build relationships, solve problems & have fun.

We’ve all got our own “things to do” but they are usually easier to complete and scratch off if we first identify what our “thing” is.
