Burning-Match -derek-GaveyMonday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.

If you think about it, achieving success is just like executing a successful vacation.

Choose your destination – Research as much as is needed so you can adequately determine that it is a place that will keep you excited through the planning and journey.

Pack your supplies – take everything that you need but remember that many items can be picked up along the way or when they are needed. It’s nice to be comfortable along your journey and not encumbered by anything.

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” – Lao Tzu, Chinese philosopher

Plan your route – Determine the path you will take but understand that the shortest route might not always be the quickest…or the most scenic. Is it a safe road you will be traveling? Are there places to stop along the way and take shelter? Should you require assistance, can it be found along your path?

Fuel up – Fill your tank with the needed energy to sustain you along the way.

Check your progress – Some travelers go city by city, others state border to state border. With every mile marker you pass, your destination gets closer. Depending on the goals you have set, you can use weekly or monthly “mile markers” as check points for your progress.

Stop & stretch – It’s not safe to travel too far without some rest. You can build in some detours into your journey or just stop every now and then and rest. Walk around, unplug or add some nourishment that will give you some energy as you get back on the path.

Hit the home stretch – It’s easy to get a bit excited when you start getting close to your destination. Your energy increases as does your focus. After a long time traveling, it’s nice to know you’re almost there. Just be careful not to get distracted by the excitement, go a bit too fast and miss your exit. You won’t want to waste any time back-tracking and fixing mistakes once you’re within striking distance.

Enjoy your vacation – You made it. Now there’s nothing left to do but sit back and relish in the results you worked so hard for. You’ll be surprised at how good you’ll feel when you kick back and enjoy your planning, hard work and execution.

Have a great week building relationships, solving problems and having fun.

…and please don’t forget to send me a post card!
