Burning-Match -derek-GaveyMonday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.

It’s been a long, cold winter for most people who live in the Midwest or Northeast. Many of us put away the golf clubs in late October and never had an opportunity to get them out again. I finally got to hit some range balls today with my daughter in anticipation of a few rounds of golf later this week.

I know part of the reason is I am getting old and another part of the reason is I am out of shape, but man…am I sore. All I did was hit about 50 range balls but I think I heard thinks creak and pop that used to be limber and smooth. I hit some good shots and really had no terrible shots but  it’s kind of hard to tell on the driving range. That might change quickly when you don’t have a bucket of balls at your feet and the shots you hit on the course tomorrow are the ones that count.

When you don’t use certain tools on a regular basis it can be hard to get back into a rhythm. When you haven’t stayed focused on the physical and  mental parts of a task, it is easy to slip back a few steps. When you start thinking that practice isn’t really important, you see how every day off could mean two days of effort to get back to the same spot.4538494895_04cd454723_z

Someone has been out there stretching, working out, practicing their short game and fine tuning their equipment for their next round. Others are going to roll out of their car and hit the first tee with no practice or warm-up and hope everything goes well.

At the same time, someone has been out their researching, working, practicing their scripts and dialogues and fine tuning their presentations and skills for their next appointment of opportunity.

Or you could just show up with no practice or warm up and hope the clients like what you have to say.

Don’t stop now. Grab another bucket. But hurry up…you’re next on the tee.
